New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday met PM Narendra Modi. He arrived at the 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence of the PM this morning. He is likely to brief PM Modi about the security preparedness in wake of the terror attack in Pahalgam.
Defence Minister reviews military preparedness
Earlier on Sunday, the Defence Minister held a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan. The 2 discussed the country’s defence preparedness in wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead. Those killed were mostly tourists.
The meeting on Sunday was at the residence of the Defence Minister and lasted for around 40 minutes. General Chahuhan briefed Singh about the preparedness of the military and its operational readiness to counter terrorism in the country. The meeting with PM Modi, just a day later, is likely to brief the PM about the discussions that Rajnath Singh had with the CDS.
Reaction to Pahalgam attack
Following the attack in Pahalgam, India has increased its military preparedness. Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert following the terror attack on April 22. The PM has already warned that the perpetrators of the attack will not be spared.
Following the attack, in which Pakistan nationals were involved, the government closed the Attari border. In possibly the strongest reaction from India in recent times, the country suspended the Indus Water Treaty with the neighbouring country. They have also asked all Pakistan nationals living in India to leave by May 1. All the states have been asked to ensure that no Pakistan national stays back in the state. The defence attaches of the Pakistan Embassy were also asked to leave New Delhi.
