New Delhi: India successfully defended against a coordinated series of attacks launched from Pakistan, averting a potential major escalation. The attacks, which began with drone incursions into Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, quickly escalated to include missile strikes targeting multiple Indian military installations. According to official Indian defence sources, at least eight missiles were launched from Pakistan, aiming for locations including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia. India’s sophisticated air defence systems, including the S-400, successfully intercepted and neutralised all missiles.
Simultaneously, multiple drone attacks were reported and swiftly countered. Three Pakistani drones were shot down near Jammu University.
The attacks prompted a swift and decisive response from India. Retaliatory strikes were launched within Pakistan, targeting several locations including Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi. A stadium in Rawalpindi, situated near Pakistan’s General Headquarters, was reportedly struck. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement reiterating India’s commitment to counter any escalation attempts while maintaining a responsible approach.
The successful defence highlights the effectiveness of India’s multi-layered air defence capabilities and its preparedness to respond to aggression. Initial reports indicated no damage or casualties on the Indian side. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges along the India-Pakistan border and the necessity for robust defence measures.
The Pakistani attempts were characterised as a “misadventure” by Indian officials, reflecting the perceived recklessness and ultimately unsuccessful nature of the attacks. News reports suggest potential links between the attacks and a meeting between the ISI and Hamas in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
