New Delhi: With Indian armed forces targeting nine locations of terrorist groups LeT and JeM across Pakistan and PoK under ‘Operation Sindoor’, the authorities have closed 18 airports and cancelled 200 flights. All closed airports are situated in the north and northwestern parts of the country.
The steps were taken after India conducted an airstrike against the two terrorist groups in response to April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed and several others were injured. While Pakistan has vowed to take a tough stand against the attack, India said that attacks were measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible.
Among the airports that have been closed include Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Amritsar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Shimla, Dharamshala and Jamnagar were closed for operations, reported news agency PTI.
IndiGo’s most affected airline
Among all airlines, IndiGo was most affected with the cancellation of 165 flights. “Due to government notification on airspace restrictions, over 165 IndiGo flights from multiple airports… are cancelled until 0529 hrs IST of 10 May 2025,” the airline said in a statement. Air India also suspended its airlines in several cities in Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, and Amritsar. Sharing a message, the airline said, “Air India flights to and from the following stations… are being cancelled till 0529 hrs IST on 10 May following a notification from aviation authorities on the closure of these airports.”
Among other airlines, Spicejet also confirmed that airports in Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar have been closed until further notice. It added, “Departures, arrivals, and consequential flights may be impacted.”
35 airlines cancelled at Delhi airport
Importantly, as many as 35 airlines have been cancelled since the airstrike. Among these were 23 domestic departures, eight arrivals, and four international flights. Foreign airlines like Qatar Airlines and American Airlines have suspended some of their operations.
