New Delhi: The civil defence exercise named Operation Shield, which was planned for May 29 in states bordering Pakistan, has been postponed in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Chandigarh due to administrative reasons. A new date for the exercise in these regions will be announced later.
The governments of Rajasthan and Gujarat confirmed the postponement through official statements. Chandigarh has also delayed the exercise.
Meanwhile, Haryana government has decided to go ahead with the plan and has instructed officials to conduct Operation Shield at 5 pm on May 29 as originally scheduled.
The exercise is part of a civil defence preparedness program led by the Directorate General of Fire Services and Home Guards. It was initially planned to take place in states like Gujarat, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh to strengthen emergency response systems in border regions.
