Anil Kumar Lahoti has served Railways for 36 years. The high-profile post of TRAI chairman was vacant after the completion of the two-year term of former chairman PD Vaghela. Now Lahoti will provide his services to TRAI for three years. Former Railway Board chief Anil Kumar Lahoti has been appointed chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). A notification from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Anil Kumar Lahoti, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Railway Board, Ministry of Railways. He will hold office for a period of three years from the date he assumes charge of the post or until he attains the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. It is known that Lahoti will replace TRAI member Meenakshi Gupta, who has currently been given additional charge of the top post.
Who is Anil Lahoti?
Anil Lahoti was a 1984 batch Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer. Lahoti holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Madhav Institute of Technology, Madhya Pradesh and a Master of Engineering in Structures from the University of Roorkee, now IIT Roorkee. He then trained in strategic management and leadership programs at Carnegie Mellon University, USA, Bocconi School of Management, Italy and ISB Hyderabad.

Lahoti held various positions in Northern, Central, North Central, Western and West Central Railways before working in the Railway Board. He has served in Indian Railways for 36 years. TRAI chief gets Rs 4.50 lakh per month.
