Guwahati: Heavy rains in northeast India, in states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur have thrown life out of gear. Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju tweeted a video of a man crossing a bridge in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh, above a swelled water body. The Minister asked the man to be careful and said that the government will provide all necessary support to rain-hit Arunachal Pradesh.
The Minister wrote on social media platform, ‘X’, “Arunachal Pradesh receives heaviest Monsoon rains in the world. Got this video of a man crossing traditional hanging bridge in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh near tri-junction of India, China & Myanmar border. Please remain careful & safe. Govt will provide necessary support.”

Houses in Manipur damaged
The northeastern state of Manipur is reeling under floods, due to monsoon. Rivers are overflowing and embankments have been breached. Officials said that an estimated 19,000 people have been affected by the floods in the state. At least 3,365 houses have been damaged, due to the incessant torrential rains during the last four days, they added.
The government has opened 31 relief camps in Imphal East, where people evacuated from their homes are staying. Heingang, Wangkhei and Khurai assembly constituencies are the worst hit districts due to the floods in the state. Apart from this, the Senapati district is also under floodwater. The state has witnessed 47 landslides in the past 4 days, said a report in PTI.
Waterlogging has been reported from several parts of the state capital, Imphal. Offices, health facilities and the premises of the All India Radio witnessed water logging after the Imphal river overflowed in the Checkon area. Patients at the state-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences had to be moved to other hospitals after water entered its premises.
The locals are helping the NDRF and SDRF personnel in rescue and relief operations.
10 dead in Assam floods
At least 10 people have lost their lives in Assam due to floods. Five of them died due to landslides in Guwahati. A total of 4 lakh people in 20 districts of the state are reeling under floods in the state. The rivers in the state are overflowing and the situation may even aggravate further, with rains continuing to lash the northeastern state.
The roadways, railways and ferry services have been hit in different parts of the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had on Sunday dialled the Assam CM to take stock of the situation in the state.
Several areas in Guwahati were flooded and movement of traffic was affected. The state administration said that distributing relief materials is a top priority for the department and items such as mosquito repellents, candles, sanitary napkins and baby food are being prioritised for quick distribution in areas hit by waterlogging and power outages.
