Noida International Airport to witness its first flight landing today

Noida: The Noida International Airport is scheduled to conduct its first flight trial on Monday at 11 am. According to airport officials, an aircraft from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) will take off from Indira Gandhi International Airport and land at Noida Airport. Before landing, the aircraft will circle the airport for approximately one and a half to two hours to gather all necessary data. This data is crucial for determining whether the airport is fully prepared for regular operations. The flight trials will continue until December 15 and will include both landing and take-off tests.

As per the information provided by the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), the during the trial the runway performance, airspace coordination, communication protocols and emergency response preparedness will also be assessed. The data gathered after the trial will be sent to the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for review. After the successful trial, the airport will be opened for passengers from April, 2025.

2. Navigation system analysis – ILS and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system test.

3. Communication protocol test – Control and coordination of air traffic.

4. Emergency simulation – Testing of airport response in adverse cases including engine failure or weather disruption.

Post-trial plans: DGCA approval, airline trials, and future passenger operations

NIAL nodal officer Shailendra Bhatia said, “Our aim is to complete the trials by December 15, after which an application will be made for aerodrome licence to start full-fledged operations of the airport.” Officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry, DGCA, NIAL and Uttar Pradesh Civil Aviation Department, including senior IAS officer SP Goyal, will monitor the flight trials.

NIAL officials said that after this trial, airline partners like Akasa and Indigo Airlines can also conduct their trials. This airport is spread over 1,334 hectares, this airport is being built in four phases with an investment of Rs 29,650 crore. Noida International Airport Chief Executive Officer Christoph Schnellmann T said that after the completion of the fourth phase of the airport, 7 crore passengers will be able to travel at this airport throughout the year.
