The government is apparently prompted to consider the need of social media policy in view of the growing activities of the government officials and employees on social media platforms and other information technologies.

Government wants officers and employees to stay away from controversial posts

While expecting the government officers and employees to promote the government schemes and its other activities through social media platforms, the government wants to avoid chances of any trouble for it by the possible controversial posts of its officers and employees in future. Recently, the state government was apparently in an uncomfortable position because of the posts of a section of government teachers. Personnel and vigilance department to prepare the draft

Keeping in mind these things, the state government has taken steps to make a code of conduct for the use of social media platforms by its officers and employees. The department of personnel and vigilance may soon submit its draft of social media policy of the officers and employees to the state government.

Social media policy may come into force in 2025

The department of personnel and vigilance will study the social media policy for the officers and employees introduced recently by the neighbouring UP government. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand police have also prepared a standard operating procedure for the use of social media by the policemen. The state government may prefer to bring the code of conduct regarding the engagement of government officers and employees on different social media platforms in the New Year.

The new policy may be linked with the Uttarakhand state employees conduct rules. It may help the state government take necessary actions against the officers or employees who violate the new policy.
