Darbhanga: Bihar is set to receive a second AIIMS, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stone for the new facility in Darbhanga on Wednesday. State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar attended the event and expressed gratitude to the PM. He said that the new AIIMS would greatly enhance the healthcare infrastructure in the state. In a moment that caught attention, Kumar touched PM Modi’s feet, which surprised those present.

PM Modi’s warm response

The establishment of AIIMS in Darbhanga is expected to elevate healthcare access for Bihar’s residents. At the ceremony, Nitish Kumar praised PM Modi, calling it a major milestone for the state. He appreciated and acknowledged the prime minister’s role in bringing the important project to Bihar. In a gesture of respect, Nitish Kumar approached PM Modi during the event and touched his feet, a moment that drew applause from the audience. PM Modi responded by raising Kumar up and clasping his hand in greeting.

This is not the first time. Such displays of reverence have been witnessed from Nitish Kumar in the past, drawing criticism from opposition parties, but he has continued to act out of personal respect. State minister Neeraj Bablu praised the project as a major accomplishment for Mithila and defended Kumar’s gesture as an expression of respect. He dismissed the opposition’s critiques and called them unnecessary. Earlier this year, Nitish Kumar had also shown similar respect to PM Modi during a Bihar event, though this time, he personally approached the Prime Minister to offer his greetings.
