Nita Ambani to light up New York’s Lincoln Center with Indian culture this Autumn

New Delhi: Nita Ambani, chairperson of Reliance Foundation, is set to showcase Indian art and culture in a big way at New York’s Lincoln Center this September. From September 12 to 14, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) will host a three-day cultural event in the US, featuring music, dance, fashion, and food from India.

The idea was born from Ambani’s childhood when she couldn’t afford a proper stage for her Bharatnatyam debut and had to perform in a temple. That early experience inspired her to support Indian arts. In 2023, she opened the grand NMACC in Mumbai, a project that took ten years and now hosts both Indian and international performances and exhibitions.

The upcoming event in New York, called the NMACC Weekend, will begin with Grand Swagat, an invite-only fashion show showcasing Indian handlooms designed by Manish Malhotra. The dinner menu will be crafted by renowned chef Vikas Khanna and will include dishes from different parts of India.

According to Vanity Fair, popular singers like Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal will perform, along with classical musician Rishab Sharma. The event will also feature The Great Indian Musical: Civilization to Nation, a grand stage show with more than 100 performers that tells India’s 7,000-year-old cultural story.

Ambani said her goal is to place Indian arts at the center of the global stage. “Culture connects people and teaches respect for others. At this moment, the world needs it more than ever,” she said to Vanity Fair.
