‘New Waqf Law will ensure social justice’: PM Modi hits out at land mafia in Haryana

Hisar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while speaking at an event in Hisar, Haryana, defended the new Waqf Law, saying that the new law would ensure the welfare of poor Muslims. He accused the land mafia of looting the land of Dalits, backwards and Adivasis. He said that after the new law, the Waqf would not be able to grab the land of Adivasis.

“Waqf has lakhs of hectares of land in the entire country. The poor, helpless women and children should have benefited from this land. Today, if it had been used honestly, my Muslim youth would not have had to struggle fixing puncture of bicycles. But instead, it was a handful of land mafia who benefited. This society, the backward Muslims, have not benefited from this.”

“The land mafia were looting the land of the Dalits, the backward classes, the Adivasis, and the property of widows. Hundreds of Muslim widows wrote to the government before the changes to the Waqf law even began to be discussed. After the changes to the Waqf law, the looting of the poor will stop,” he said.

“This is a very important and responsible action. We have made another provision in this Waqf Act. Under the new law, the Waqf Board will not be able to touch the land, home, or property of any Adivasi in any part of India. This is to protect the interests of the Adivasis and uphold the principles of the constitution,” he added.

“The new provisions will ensure the respect for Waqf’s noble intentions. The poor, backward, and Muslim widows and children of the Muslim community will now receive their due, and their rights will be protected in the future. This is the true spirit of Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s constitution. Our government, since 2014, has taken many important steps to achieve this, carrying forward the legacy of Baba Saheb Ambedkar for generations to come,” PM Modi said.
