Mumbai: Even as the Mahayuti is yet to announce the name of the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra, authorities have chosen Mumbai’s historic Azad Maidan for the oath ceremony of the new government. It’s been seven days since the alliance was voted back to power in Maharashtra with a huge majority last week.
As per sources to TV9 network, the new government may take oath on December 5. Before this, the BJP legislative party may hold on meeting on December 2 or December 3 and announce their leader, who would then be automatically named as the next chief minister of the state. The party will send an observer from the center to elect the leader of the legislative party. After the meeting, the date for the swearing-in will be announced officially.
BJP has started preparations for swearing-in
While the BJP has started preparations for the swearing-in, state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule is believed to be active in the whole matter. It is believed that he is himself informing the MLAs about the swearing-in.
In 2014, when Devendra Fadnavis became the Chief Minister first time, he took oath at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Among others who attended his swearing-in included Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This government lasted for a full 5 years.
In 2019, he again became the Chief Minister for the second time. However, this time he took oath at the Raj Bhavan itself. His government could not even reach the Vidhan Sabha for the trust vote that year. When Uddhav Thackeray became the Chief Minister, he chose Shivaji Maidan for his government’s oath ceremony.
