New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that there is need for speedy justice in cases involving crimes against women. He urged district court judges to prioritise the quick resolution of these cases, noting that while strict laws exist for women’s safety, there is a need to enforce them more effectively.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the National Conference of District Judiciary, PM Modi said that the serious societal concerns regarding atrocities against women and the safety of children. He said, “Many strict laws have been enacted in the country for the safety of women, but we ngeed to make them more effective. The quicker decisions are made in cases related to atrocities against women, the greater the assurance of safety for half the population.”
PM Modi lauds judiciary
PM Modi praised the judiciary, acknowledging it as the protector of the Constitution, and commended the Supreme Court for fulfilling its duties. Earlier, during the National Conference of District Judiciary, the Prime Minister unveiled stamps and coins to commemorate 75 years of the Supreme Court’s establishment. The event was also attended by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Kapil Sibal.
Supreme Court’s 75th anniversary
PM Modi addressed the Supreme Court’s 75th anniversary event, praising Indians’ unwavering faith in the judiciary. “The SC has upheld our trust, safeguarding fundamental rights and national integrity, even during the Emergency,” he said. Modi said that the court’s role in India’s democratic maturity. “This 75-year journey is not just of an institution, but of India’s Constitution and values.” The event marked the start of a two-day conference on District Judiciary, focusing on infrastructure, inclusive courtrooms, judicial security, case management, and training. PM Modi hailed the Supreme Court’s commitment to national interest and democratic principles.
