Nara Lokesh appointed TDP working president at Mahanadu

New Delhi: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has officially appointed Nara Lokesh as its working president. The announcement, made during the party’s three-day Mahanadu conclave in Kurnool, marks a significant moment in the TDP’s history. At 42, Lokesh, the son of current TDP president Chandrababu Naidu, assumes a key leadership role within the party.

Lokesh’s appointment follows the TDP’s impressive showing in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. The TDP-BJP alliance secured a commanding majority, winning 164 out of 175 assembly seats and 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats, achieving a vote share exceeding 53%. Lokesh’s contributions to the party’s campaign strategy were instrumental in this victory.

Currently holding key portfolios in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet, including Human Resource Development, Information Technology, Electronics, and Communications, Lokesh’s elevation to working president signifies a planned generational shift in TDP leadership. While Chandrababu Naidu remains at the helm, this appointment positions Lokesh to take on greater responsibility within the party. His focus will be on strengthening the party’s organisational structure and devising a long-term strategy for future electoral success. The Mahanadu conclave reportedly includes plans for a comprehensive six-point strategy to achieve this goal.

This division of responsibilities, with Naidu overseeing governance and Lokesh concentrating on party affairs, represents a strategic move to ensure both effective administration and robust party management. Lokesh’s popularity, particularly among women voters in Andhra Pradesh, is considered a significant asset to the party’s prospects. His involvement in initiatives such as the planned free bus rides for women, scheduled to launch on 15th August, further underscores his growing influence within the TDP. The appointment is viewed as a natural progression, preparing the party for a smooth transition of leadership in the years to come.
