Kolkata: A Mumbai-bound Air India flight suffered a technical glitch early Tuesday, prompting the authorities to vacate the plane. The flight from San Francisco to Mumbai via Kolkata developed a technical problem in the left engine.
The passengers were asked to deboard the plane during a scheduled layover at the Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, according to the news agency PTI. The take-off from Kolkata to Mumbai was delayed due to the glitch.
Air India flight AI180 departed from the San Francisco Airport as per the schedule. However, after arriving at the Kolkata airport at 12:45 am, it developed a technical snag in the left engine. After over fours hours of delay, all the passengers were asked to deplane at 5:20 am, with the captain informing them that the decision was taken in the interest of flight safety.
Several domestic and international Air India flights have lately been facing technical snag and some even made emergency landing or forced to make U-turns. These incidents have left the flyers feeling on the edge especially
after the horrific Air India plane crash incident.
In one of the worst aviation tragedies, Air India flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London crashed on June 12.
