New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and parts of Jammu and Kashmir within the next two days, likely by June 24.
The IMD said that conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon over north India. The monsoon has already advanced over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire regions of Ladakh and Kashmir, most of Jammu, and parts of Punjab.
Light to moderate rainfall in Delhi
Meanwhile, the weather department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Delhi for Monday, forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at speeds of 30–40km/h.
On Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2°C, 1.3 degrees below the seasonal average, and a minimum of 28.4°C. The relative humidity stood at 78 per cent at 5.30pm. The city received 0.1mm of rainfall on Saturday.
Heavy rainfall across northwest India
The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Konkan and Goa between June 22 and 26, with extremely heavy rain expected over Gujarat on June 22 and Madhya Pradesh on June 23–24.
Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category on Sunday, with an AQI reading of 98, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
