New Delhi: A mock drill will be conducted on the evening of May 31 in four states bordering Pakistan — Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir. The exercise will take place in districts adjacent to the international border. The aim is to enhance civil preparedness in the event of war-like situations.
According to a government directive, the mock drill will now be held monthly in these regions. The objective is to test the operational readiness of control rooms, the functionality of air raid warning systems, and the effectiveness of civil defence mechanisms including fire services, rescue operations, depot management, evacuation plans, and warden coordination.

The drill was originally scheduled earlier this week but was postponed. The new date was announced following the delay, with officials confirming that the drill will proceed as planned on May 31.
The decision comes in the backdrop of the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack and India launching attack on terror infrastructures inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. A nationwide drill in a similar context was also conducted earlier.
