Several leaders, including 15 former MLAs and one former MP from Tamil Nadu, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Wednesday. In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the ruling party at the Center is continuously trying to strengthen its position in this southern state. Most of these leaders joining BJP are from former BJP ally All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). These leaders took membership of BJP in the presence of Union Ministers Rajiv Chandrashekhar and L Murugan and State BJP President K Annamalai.
Modi will come to power for the third consecutive time
Welcoming them, Annamalai said that these leaders joining BJP are very experienced and all want to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed that BJP’s victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is certain and Modi will come to power for the third consecutive time.
Tamil Nadu is going on the path of BJP
He indirectly targeted the state’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its main rival AIADMK, saying they were watching the events happening in Tamil Nadu. With his party’s strong position on ideological stance in the Dravidian state and sharp criticism of accused parties, the young leader claimed, “Tamil Nadu is going the way of the Bharatiya Janata Party.”
This shows the popularity of Modi
Chandrashekhar said that joining the party on such a large scale shows Modi’s popularity in a state like Tamil Nadu. BJP has traditionally been weak in Tamil Nadu. He said that Prime Minister Modi has claimed that BJP will win 370 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will win more than 400 seats. He said, “It is clear that every citizen of India wants that the process of change that has taken place in the country in the last 10 years should continue in future also.”
