Manipur government revokes decision to reopen schools and colleges amid fresh violence

New Delhi: The Manipur government has reversed its earlier decision to reopen schools and colleges in the Imphal Valley and Jiribam district, officials confirmed on Monday. Educational institutions across Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Jiribam had been closed for nearly a week following prohibitory orders issued due to renewed violence in the state. The schools and colleges were to open from Monday, November 25

In a new directive issued late Sunday night, the Directorate of Education (Schools) announced, “The school reopening order dated November 24, regarding the resumption of regular classes for all government, government-aided, private, and central schools in the state, is hereby withdrawn. Schools in the valley districts will remain closed on November 25 and 26.” A similar notice was issued for colleges, officials said.

Prohibitory orders relaxed in Valley districts

Meanwhile, restrictions in the Valley have been partially eased, with prohibitory orders relaxed from 5am to 12pm, allowing residents to purchase essential supplies, as stated in separate notifications from the administrations of the affected districts.
