Relief from rains in Nashik

Though heavy showers are predicted to hit Mumbai on Friday, Nashik saw some relief as rains stopped in the district. After rains stopped, the water level in the Godavari which was flowing above the danger mark, receded.

Following the development, several people started visiting Ramkund, on the banks of the Godavari river. Since Friday morning, a large number of people have visited the Godavari Ghats to immerse the ashes of their relatives. But the Nashik administration is not giving permission to them to enter the swelled river. Officials said that the water is still flowing above the danger mark and is receding only slowly. Moreover, the IMD has predicted heavy rains in Nashik on Friday.

The IMD said that Mumbai’s Colaba observatory recorded 142.6 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Thursday. Meanwhile the Santacruz observatory recorded 60.5 mm of rain in the same time frame. The department said that rains are likely over the entire Konkan belt in the next 24 hours.
