Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially moved into the ‘Varsha’ bungalow along with his family on Wednesday (April 30), on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. ‘Varsha’ is the designated government residence for the state’s chief executive. The housewarming ceremony, which included a traditional puja, was attended by CM’s wife, Amruta Fadnavis and their daughter, Divija.
Empty ‘Varsha’ sparked rumours
The Fadnavis family marked the long-awaited griha pravesh at the iconic Mumbai bungalow, which had remained unoccupied for a considerable time, sparking political controversy in recent months.
The delay in moving into the bungalow had triggered political jibes, especially from Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) leader Sanjay Raut. In February this year, Raut had questioned CM Fadnavis’s decision of not moving into Varsha — the official bungalow — nearly two months after assuming charge. He had alleged that “black magic rituals” performed by former CM Eknath Shinde had deterred Fadnavis. The allegations were rubbished by the BJP and Shinde, who said that the claims were absurd and called Raut “mentally unstable.”
Raut subsequently went on to claim that there might be a plan to demolish ‘Varsha’ and replace it with a new structure, stirring a row.
CM’s wife shares the news
Amruta Fadnavis shared the moment on social media, writing, “Warm wishes to everyone on Akshaya Tritiya. On this auspicious day, we performed a small puja and completed the griha pravesh at our residence, Varsha.”
Sharing a personal milestone for the Fadnavis family, Amruta wrote about their daughter Divija’s academic success. Divija secured an impressive 92.60% in her 10th-grade board examinations. Sharing her pride and joy, Amruta tweeted, “Overjoyed to share another delightful news — our daughter Divija has passed her 10th board exams with 92.60% marks.”
