Lucknow: Ahead of Eid-Ul-Adha, which is expected to be observed on June 7 this month, Imam of the Lucknow Eidgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, has issued a 12-point advisory urging Muslims to perform the ritual of animal sacrifice in a hygienic, respectful, and socially responsible manner.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Maulana Farangi Mahali said that the qurbani (sacrifice) must be carried out at designated spots only, not on roadsides, streets or public areas. He urged community members to ensure cleanliness throughout the process and avoid letting blood enter drains, suggesting instead that it be buried in raw soil to act as a natural fertilizer.
“No videos or photos of the sacrifice should be taken or shared on social media,” the Imam said, highlighting the importance of discretion and religious decorum during the festival.
He also reminded devotees to adhere to the principle of sharing, encouraging them to distribute one-third of the meat from the sacrificed animal among the poor and needy. In addition to these guidelines, the advisory calls for special prayers for the safety of one’s family and for Indian soldiers guarding the nation’s borders.
Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It is marked by prayers and the sacrifice of animals, followed by community feasts and charitable acts. The advisory aims to promote a peaceful, clean, and respectful observance of the festival across the city.
