Low-pressure area forms in Andaman sea, Heavy rain expected in southern states

Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of a low-pressure area in the North Andaman Sea region, which is likely to move northwest and intensify. A fresh upper air circulation is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea on October 20, leading to the development of a low-pressure area over the Central Bay of Bengal by October 22.

According to the IMD, the change in the weather system will bring widespread light to moderate rain to Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana this week. Heavy rain is forecasted in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on October 20 and 21, and in Kerala and Mahe on October 22 and 23.

Private meteorologists have also weighed in on the situation with Srikanth, a private meteorologist, stated that the atmospheric circulation in the South China Sea region may move to the North Andaman Sea, bringing rain to coastal areas from Andhra Pradesh to West Bengal. However, he noted that the chances of rain reaching Tamil Nadu are slim.

Lets not worry about the next low pressure that is coming from Indo-China near north Andaman next week, it will be above our Chennai latitude when it enters Andaman sea. So unless that low… pic.twitter.com/vN9OpaGJqg
