New Delhi: Aligarh’s educational landscape is facing a storm of criticism after a series of disturbing incidents at primary schools exposed negligence and abuse of students. The latest incident involved the suspension of a school principal, Munawwar Jahan after a video surfaced online showing students preparing rotis for their mid-day meals.
The action was taken after the video showing school girls between the age of 6-12 years making rotis surfaced online. The action was taken on Basic Shiksha Adhikari’s (BSA) instructions.
The BSA (Aligarh), Rakesh Kumar Yadav, confirmed that an investigation found the principal guilty of negligence, leading to her immediate suspension. “The matter came to our notice after a video of a primary school in Roravar under the Lodha development block of Aligarh district was widely circulated. Basic Education Officer (BEO) Ram Shankar Kureel was asked to probe the matter, and a three-member committee headed by him found the principal, Munawwar Jahan, guilty of negligence. She has been suspended,” Yadav was quoted by Times of India.
This incident follows a string of similar controversies. Another principal, Mohammad Imran, was suspended for allegedly “mercilessly beating” a Class 6 student, sparking outrage among locals and leading to a protest at the school.
Just last month, a primary school teacher, Dimple Bansal, was suspended for “irresponsible behaviour” after two videos surfaced online. One video showed her taking a nap during class while students fanned her, while another depicted her caning students with a stick.
