New Delhi: In a major deviation from the party lines, Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid who was part of the delegations visiting abroad to expose Pakistan’s role in terror, hailed the the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
Notably, the Centre abrogated Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, a special state granted to the former state (now Union Territory).
Addressing the Indonesian think Tanks and Academia, the former Union Minister also said that the Union Territory has progressed ever since the Article was abolished. He added that there is a government in the region today that was elected after a successful election in the region.
“Kashmir had a major problem for a long time. Much of that was reflected in the thinking of the government in an article called 370 of the Constitution, which somehow gave the impression that it was separate from the rest of the country. But Article 370 was abrogated, and it was finally put to an end,” news agency ANI quoted Khurshid as saying.
He added, “Subsequently, there was an election with 65% participation in the election. There’s an elected government in Kashmir today, and therefore, for people to want to undo everything that has happened, the prosperity that has come to Kashmir.”
It may be noted that Khurshid is the latest Congress leader to shift his stance from the party line, with earlier being Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari. Even as Tharoor exposed Pakistan during his delegation’s visits abroad, Tewari said at a press conference that the US did not interfere between India and Pakistan’s ceasefire.
