Mangaluru: Karnataka government has announced the formation of a special Anti-Communal Task Force to tackle rising communal tensions in the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. This is the first time such a force is being created in the country, similar to the Anti-Naxal unit.

State Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara said that the task force will be formed within a week or two. It will work closely with the local police but will have the power to act independently to stop communal activities. “This force will hopefully help control all communal incidents and restore peace,” he said.

The decision comes in response to increasing communal violence in the region, as well as after Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The task force aims to take strict action against those who spread hate, incite violence, or give inflammatory speeches.

Officials have been instructed to take strong steps against anyone promoting communal hatred. The goal is to bring back a sense of safety and unity in Dakshina Kannada.

Speaking on the murder of Suhas Shetty, the Home Minister said that eight people have been arrested. “The investigation is ongoing, and we will know the motive once it’s complete,” he added.

The formation of this task force is being seen as a major step by the government to reduce fear and restore confidence among the people of these coastal districts.
