Nainital: As the world-famous Kainchi Dham fair approaches on June 15, preparations have intensified, with key regulations announced to ensure smooth crowd management. Photography, videography, and making reels have been officially banned at the sacred site this year, as authorities focus on maintaining decorum and security during the event.
Lakhs of devotees are expected to flock to Kainchi Dham to celebrate the foundation day of the ashram, dedicated to the revered Neem Karoli Baba. In anticipation of large crowds, strict transportation guidelines have been enforced, including traffic restrictions, shuttle services, and designated parking zones for visitors.
Zero zone declared, private vehicles restricted
The Nainital District Administration has declared a zero zone along the Haldwani-Almora National Highway on June 14 and 15, ensuring controlled movement of vehicles near the fairgrounds. As in previous years, private vehicles and taxis will not be allowed beyond Bhowali, with parking facilities arranged at Nagar Palika Ground, Bhowali. From there, devotees will be transported to Kainchi Dham via shuttle services.
Additional shuttle routes have been planned from Haldwani, Bhimtal, Nainital, Garampani, and Bhowali, with two extra services dedicated for elderly, sick, and disabled devotees to facilitate their journey. Color-coded stickers and pre-fixed fare indicators will be placed on vehicles to avoid confusion and ensure efficient passenger movement.
Fair grounds and cleanliness initiatives
On Monday, Nainital DM Vandana Singh chaired a high-level meeting to finalize fair logistics, cleanliness, sanitation, and infrastructure. Officials have been instructed to complete arrangements for drinking water, electricity, toilets, and hygiene by June 12. To enhance cleanliness, extra personnel will be deployed for regular waste collection, and the Shipra River will undergo systematic cleaning throughout the fair.
Moreover, the distribution of free meals (bhandara) and food vans along the main roads connecting Kainchi Dham will be strictly prohibited. However, those willing to serve pilgrims can set up service points on their land or designated parking lots, with prior permission from the Sub-District Magistrate of Kainchi Dham.
Spiritual importance of Kainchi Dham
The Kainchi Dham Ashram, established in 1971, remains a major spiritual pilgrimage site, attracting thousands of devotees worldwide, including influential figures such as Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, who have visited to seek blessings from Neem Karoli Baba. His teachings of devotion, humility, and selfless service continue to inspire millions. As the fair date nears, devotees eagerly prepare for their journey, mindful of the new regulations in place.
