New Delhi: The three-member committee appointed by the Supreme Court for conducting an inquiry into the allegations of cash discovery against Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma has submitted its report to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna.
The Supreme Court, in a press release, said the three-member committee consisting of Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu, Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Justice GS Sandhawalia and Karnataka High Court judge Justice Anu Sivaraman has submitted its report to CJI Khanna on May 4.
What did the Supreme Court statement say?
“The three-member Committee ……constituted for conducting an inquiry into the allegations against Mr Justice Yashwant Varma, a sitting Judge, has submitted its report dated 03.05.2025 to the Chief Justice of India on 04.05.2025,” the Supreme Court release said.
A huge stash of cash was reportedly discovered from Justice Varma’s house
A huge stash of cash was reportedly discovered from the house of then Delhi High Court judge Justice Varma from his official residence in the national capital following a fire at his official Delhi residence at around 11.35 pm on March 14.
A preliminary inquiry was conducted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya following the alleged discovery of cash at Justice Varma’s official residence and judicial work was taken away from Justice Varma at the Delhi High Court.
A three-member committee was constituted on March 22
CJI Khanna constituted a three-member committee on March 22 to conduct an in-house inquiry into cash discovery allegations and later the inquiry report, including photos and videos of the alleged discovery of a huge stash of cash, of Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya was uploaded on the apex court website.
The Supreme Court collegium recommended the repatriation of Justice Varma to his parent Allahabad High Court on March 24 and the Centre later had notified the transfer of Justice Varma to his parent Allahabad High Court.
