New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has released the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria for Indian and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) category candidates. As per the updated JEE Advanced 2025 guidelines, this year the number of attempts has increased to three in three consecutive years, earlier which was only twice.

Candidates appearing for the JEE 2025 can check the eligibility details on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. Apart from the JEE Advanced attempt limit the other eligibility requirement for the exam remains the same.

Age limit

Candidates attempting the paper must be born on or after October 1, 2000. For reserved category candidates, there is a relaxation of five years.

Total attempts

Candidates can attempt the JEE Advanced 2025 exam a maximum of three times in three consecutive years.

Performance in JEE Main 2025

Candidates need to be the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main 2025 paper 1 for BE, BTech. The category-wise distribution of the top 2.5 lakh candidates is detailed in the table below-

Class 12 eligibility requirements

  • Candidates must have appeared for the Class 12 (or equivalent) exam for the first time in 2023 or 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Those who had appeared in the Class 12 exam for the first time in 2022 or earlier, are not eligible.
  • If the board declared the Class 12 academic year 2021-22 result on or after September 21, 2022, then candidates of that board are eligible.

Admission of candidates at IIT

  • Candidates must have not been admitted to any of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in any academic programmes which are mentioned in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) Business Rules 2024 or earlier
  • Those candidates whose admission to IITs was cancelled after joining are also not eligible.
  • Candidates admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs in the year 2024 for the first time can appear for the exam.
  • Candidates allocated a seat in an IIT through JoSAA but did not report online or withdrew before the last round of allotment or had their seat cancelled before the last round are eligible.
