Japanese language should also be added to boost employability: CS

Patna:  Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Bihar successfully inaugurated Foreign Language Studies (French & German) in 15 Government Engineering Colleges under the aegis of Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education (DSTTE).

The online event was organised in the Chief Secretary’s meeting hall here in the state capital.

The event was graced by Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Chief Secretary, Bihar Government, Dr. Pratima, Secretary DSTTE, and Shri Ahamad Mahmood, Director-cum-Additional Secretary DSTTE.

A comprehensive presentation was given by the Secretary, showcasing the objectives, execution, and future expansion plans of the project. Following the successful implementation of the pilot project, the initiative is set to be extended to all 38 Government Engineering Colleges across Bihar in the near future.

In his address, the Chief Secretary emphasized upon the significance of foreign language proficiency for engineers, highlighting his own experience and background in the field. He underscored that learning languages like French, German and Japanese enhances global opportunities, cross-cultural interactions, and professional growth.
He also highlighted the transformative journey of technical education in Bihar over the past decade. He recalled that in 2015, the Honourable Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar identified education as a key pillar for Bihar’s economic and social development, setting the vision under the motto “Aarthik Bal, Yuvaon Ka Hal” (Economic stability , Solutions for Youth).

Over the past decade, Bihar has made remarkable progress in technical education, including infrastructure development, faculty recruitment, and curriculum upgrades.

The introduction of foreign language studies (French & German) in 15 Government Engineering Colleges further enhances students’ global outreach. He further emphasized that Japanese language courses should also be added to boost employability.

He directed the department to seek transformative international collaborations with foreign universities and colleges, opening doors for engineering students to engage in enriching student exchange programs.

Furthermore, he encouraged more Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Bihar’s engineering colleges and foreign institutes, facilitating academic exchanges, research collaborations, language immersion programs.

With these initiatives, Bihar’s engineering colleges are poised to become Institutes of National Eminence.
At last, he extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Pratima, Secretary of DSTTE, for the remarkable achievement in expanding global learning opportunities for Bihar’s engineering students. The event showcased students confidently conversing in foreign languages, a testament to Bihar’s commitment to technical excellence and global competitiveness.

Principals, faculty members and students, from 38 Government Engineering Colleges joined the event live from their respective state-of-the-art language labs. As part of the interactive session, students learning French and German showcased their skills by introducing themselves and conversing in these foreign languages, demonstrating the success of the initiative.

The online inauguration witnessed enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from attendees, further strengthening the department’s vision of enhancing communication skills and global competitiveness among engineering students.

The Department of Science, Technology & Technical Education (DSTTE) has been regularly conducting this kind of programme for capacity building/enhancement of students of Government Engineering Colleges of Bihar.
