New Delhi: In the tragic Air India plane crash on Thursday, a 21-year-old Nganthoi Sharma Kongbrailatpam lost her life. The Manipur girl’s family is in a deep state of shock. She was one of the members of the cabin crew team in the Air India’s Dreamliner. At least 260 people were killed in the unprecedented plane crash on Thursday.
Sharma became a cabin crew at the early age of nineteen. K Nandeshkumar, and mother are in trauma and could not gather the strength to speak. Among the three siblings, Nganthoi Sharma was the second.
Nganthoi’s last call before crash
“It was her dream to become a flight attendant. We couldn’t chat on video as usual due to the internet ban. But she messaged me while I was in school that she would be flying to London today and that she would be unreachable,” Nganthoi Sharma’s elder sister Gitanjali told NDTV.
She said she would return on 15 June. I wished her a safe flight and told her we’d contact her when we got the internet connection back. Then we heard of the plane crash from an aunt on the phone. She said an Air India flight had crashed in Ahmedabad; the plane was going to London. This is how we confirmed it,” Gitanjali said and broke down.
Internet was shut down in several parts of the Manipur valley after the ongoing protest against the arrest of a member Arambai Tenggol, the previous week.
Dreams Shattered
The Manipur girl always wished to become a cabin crew. While pursuing graduation, she cracked the exam on the first attempt. Nganthoi wished to travel the world and fulfill her dreams. The sudden accident destroyed all her dreams and aspirations in a matter of seconds, leaving her family helpless.
“After completing Class 12, she enrolled in DM College of Commerce. She was very keen on trying for a cabin crew job. She cracked it in her first try; she was very happy in thinking about going to many destinations,” Gitanjali said.
One of her cousins asserted, ” She once told me she was terrified of plane crashes. She didn’t know what she’d do if she was in one. The fear haunted her.”
Nganthoi’s youngest sister who studies in class 9 has turned numb, while her elder sister Geetanjali is trying her best to keep the entire family shielded from this unanticipated incident. Fake news about her identity and personal information is streaming on social media, adding to the devastation.
