New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann has made a bizarre and controversial statement in which he said that the BJP had turned “sindoor” into a joke and asked if this was “one nation, one husband” scheme.
While speaking to the media, CM Mann was asked a question on BJP workers seeking votes by referring to Operation Sindoor before the Ludhiana bypoll. He said, “BJP is seeking votes in the name of Operation Sindoor. These people have turned ‘sindoor’ into a joke. They are sending sindoor to every home. Will you now apply ‘sindoor’ in (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi’s name? Is this a ‘one nation, one husband’ scheme?”.
Recently, the BJP announced a campaign across the nation to highlight and make everyone aware of the success of the Narendra Modi government in Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack. The workers of the BJP are planning to go from door to door and make people aware about the success and significance of Operation Sindoor.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the Centre for selecting ‘Operation Sindoor’ as the name. She said after PM Modi’s visit to Bengal, “The name ‘Operation Sindoor’ was their brainchild. It was politically motivated. I did not want to say this, especially when the multi-party delegations are visiting several countries and explaining India’s stand. But today, the Prime Minister came to West Bengal with the motive of political propaganda. First, he (PM Modi) described himself as a tea-seller. Then, he described himself as a guard. Now he has come here to sell Sindoor.”
PM Modi reportedly himself chose the name Operation Sindoor, with ‘sindoor’ meaning vermilion in Hindi. In Hinduism, women put sindoor on their head as marriage symbol. The operation’s name captured the loss of those women who were widowed in the Pahalgam terror attack. The Operation Sindoor logo was written in block letters and one of the ‘O’ was a bowl of vermilion. The caption of the logo was “Justice is served. Jai Hind.”
