IPL mega auction to be held in last week of November in Riyadh – Report

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction is likely to take place in the last week of November in Riyadh. According to a report in Sportstar, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking at November 24 and 25 as the likely dates to conduct the mega event in the capital city of Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, all the franchises have been informally informed about the same though the Indian cricket board is yet to make a formal announcement. With the last year’s auction held in Dubai, this year too it was decided to hold the big event in the Middle East. During the initial search, London and Singapore were considered as the possible venues to host the auction but later, Saudi Arabia emerged as the front-runner because of a suitable time zone, which will also be fit in terms of the broadcast.

BCCI, IPL busy finalising

The Indian cricket board and the IPL are in the final stages of finalising the venue for the mega auction in the city, which can accommodate delegations from the 10 franchises and the entire crew of Jio and Disney Star for almost three days. Though Saudi Arabia is considered expensive in comparison with Dubai, the BCCI believes that IPL being the most popular cricketing leagues in the world needs to attract new markets and the Middle East comes as the most important market to create a new fan base.
