Reacting to the development, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee had called the called medics “inhumane”. Calling them unfit to become doctors, he also urged the state government to ensure that protesting doctors are not permitted to sit for their final exams.

Medics continue to protest

The medics are on protest in Kolkata ever since reports of a resident doctor being raped and murdered at the RG Kar Hospital. While one of the accused has been taken in custody, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the matter further.

‘Demonstrations to continue outside Swathya Bhavan’

Meanwhile, the resident doctors have continued with their sit-in demonstration outside the state’s health department headquarters for the third successive day on Friday. The doctors added that their demonstrations would continue outside ‘Swathya Bhavan’ until their demands were met. Among their demands include the suspension of the health secretary, police commissioner, Director of Medical Education and Health Secretary, and Director of Health Services.

Authorities have deployed a large contingent of police personnel in and around ‘Swathya Bhavan’ at Salt Lake to maintain law and order and also to smooth the movement of traffic.
