‘We have stated this earlier that the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina came to India at a very notice for safety reasons. We have nothing to add on that matter. Also, to answering your question, you know, I think what you are asking lies in the realm of hypothetical issues. So that is where we are on the issue that you raised, ” the minister said while addressing a media briefing.

‘Misleading narrative’

He also dismissed recent claims by CNN suggesting that the floods in the eastern districts of Bangladesh were caused by the release of water from the Dumbur Dam in Tripura.. “We have seen the CNN report on the flood situation in Bangladesh. Its narrative is misleading and suggests that India is somehow responsible for the floods.”

“This is factually not correct and ignores the facts mentioned in the press releases issued by the Government of India clarifying the situation. They have also ignored that we have regular and timely exchange of data and critical information between the two countries through existing joint mechanisms for water resources management.”

On Pakistan’s invitation for SCO Summit

When asked about Pakistan’s invitation to India for the SCO Summit in Islamabad, Jaiswal said “Yes, we have received an invitation from Pakistan for the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) meeting. We don’t have an update on that. We will let you know the situation later.”

On Indians in the Russian Army

On being asked about the recruitment of Indians in the Russian Army, “Our Mission in Moscow continues to work with relevant Russian authorities to facilitate early discharge of our nationals serving in the Russian army. As a result, 15 Indian nationals have been released so far.”
