India’s Smartphone Market Sees 9% Growth in Q3 2024; Vivo Takes Lead Replacing Xiaomi

As the third quarter of 2024 concluded along with the festive season sales, the impact on the shipments and sales of smartphones has seen massive growth. Indian smartphone market witnessed a 9 per cent volume in Q3 2024, market tracker Canalys report suggested. Even though the start of the festive season has been slow, 47.1 million smartphone units shipped.

This is the result of the efforts of vendors clearing inventory through early monsoon sales via online as well as offline platforms. “Most vendors aggressively shipped devices to meet festive demand, but weaker-than-expected traction will result in inventory buildup,” Sanyam Chaurasia, Senior Analyst at Canalys said.

During the third quarter of 2024, Vivo emerged at the top becoming the most-selling smartphone brand while replacing Xiaomi. As per the report, Vivo shipped around 9.1 million units in three months with 26 per cent year-on-year growth and 19 per cent market share. On the other hand, Xiaomi slipped to the second spot with 7.8 million units for shipment with a 17 per cent market share. It must be noted that Xiaomi estimates also include its sub-brands such as Poco. Xiaomi is followed by some other prominent smartphone giants such as Samsung Oppo, and Realme.

Despite the fact that Apple couldn’t be in the top five, it is suggested that the tech giant drive huge volumes with the iPhone 15 sale. Similarly, some other brands such as Google, Nothing, and Motorola continued to drive volumes due to their design statement, clean UI, and expansion strategies.
