New Delhi: An anti-Naxal operation is currently underway in Chhattisgarh. On Tuesday, a fierce encounter occurred between Naxalites and security forces along the Bijapur-Telangana border, resulting in the death of a female Naxalite. The clash took place in the forested area around the Karregutta hills, situated on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, where a joint team of security forces is conducting operations against the Naxalites. There has been intermittent firing from both sides.

This encounter is being regarded as one of the largest anti-Maoist operations launched in the Bastar district. The operation involves the District Reserve Guard, Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force—all units of the Chhattisgarh Police—along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and its specialised unit, Cobra. Following the encounter on Tuesday, the bodies of four female Naxalites have been recovered from the area since the operation began on April 21.

Security forces, numbering around 24,000 personnel from various units, launched this operation after receiving intelligence about the presence of senior cadres from ‘Battalion No. 1’, noted for being one of the strongest military formations of the Maoists, and leaders from the Telangana State Committee of the Maoists in the region. Additionally, a significant cache of arms has been recovered from the encounter sites so far.
