New Delhi: A large gathering of the Indian diaspora took place outside the Indian High Commission in London. The demonstration served as a powerful counter-protest to previous pro-Khalistani demonstrations in the city. The event was primarily organised in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the tragic loss of 57 innocent lives. Protesters vehemently condemned this act of terrorism and expressed their solidarity with India.
Chants of “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Hind” filled the air, alongside slogans directly condemning the violence and calling for an end to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Protestors highlighted the historical contribution of Sikhs to the Indian military and the country as a whole, contrasting this with the actions of those currently supporting Khalistani separatist movements. One of the protesters, identified only as a British citizen, voiced their concerns about Pakistan’s alleged harbouring of terrorists like Osama bin Laden and Dawood Ibrahim.
They urged the British government and the international community to impose economic sanctions on Pakistan and to formally designate it as a state sponsor of terrorism. They further called for a cessation of foreign aid to Pakistan. The speaker argued that Pakistan’s alleged support of terrorism for three decades should not be tolerated.
The protest served as a powerful display of the Indian community’s resolve and its collective condemnation of terrorism. The large turnout underscored the emotional impact of the Pahalgam attack and the strong sense of unity within the diaspora in the face of such violence. The event highlighted the complex political situation and the ongoing debate regarding Pakistan’s role in regional instability.
