New Delhi: With over 5 million people in the United States identifying themselves as Indian, they have registered a strong presence and made a mark for themselves. With this, the Indian Americans have left behind many Asian Americans in earnings.
Household income of Indians in US
The household income of Indian Americans has exceeded $150,000 putting them on top in the list of Asian Americans. The annual household income of Indian Americans is 40 per cent higher than those of Japanese and Chinese together, said a report in The Hindu.
At least 25 million Asians were residing in US till 2013. This was double the number of Asians living in the United States in 2000. The report said that Asian Americans were 7.4 of US population in 2023. It was a 3 per cent jump from the date recorded in the year 2000.
Poverty status of Indians in US
Six per cent of Indians in the United States are living in poverty. This is a smaller share among Asians which stands at 10%.
Asian population in US
As per the report, Chinese ethnic group comprises the biggest among Asian with 22 per cent in the United States followed by Indians at 21 per cent and Filipinos at 19 per cent.
Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, Pakistanis form 8, 9, 7, and 3 per cent of the US population respectively.
The report further stated that the number of Asian immigrants in the United States has declined from 63 per cent in 2000 to 54 per cent in 2023.
Education level
As per the Pew Research report, 83 per cent of Taiwanese hold a bachelor’s degree or higher followed by Indians at 77 per cent. Cambodia, Burmese, Laos, Bhutanese have the lowest educational attainments in the United States.
