India sees rise in COVID-19 cases; Health ministry issues caution

New Delhi: India is witnessing a recent increase in COVID-19 cases, leading the Union Health Ministry to urge heightened public awareness and caution. The total number of active cases has climbed to over 1000, a considerable rise from the 257 reported earlier in the day. While health officials emphasise that the majority of cases are mild and treatable at home, the increase has spurred increased monitoring and proactive measures.

The surge in cases is not uniformly distributed across the country. Kerala, with 95 active cases, currently reports the highest number. Tamil Nadu follows closely with 66 active cases, followed by Maharashtra with 56. Delhi has seen a sharp increase, jumping from five cases on Sunday to 99. Karnataka has also reported a rise, with nine new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing its total to 47 active cases.

Even West Bengal has reported four new cases, including a 31-year-old woman and a 12-year-old child from the same family, who are both recovering well at home.

The Union Health Ministry’s statement confirms 1009 active COVID-19 cases nationwide. The ministry, while acknowledging the increase, maintains that there is no immediate cause for widespread alarm. However, the increase has prompted a heightened focus on surveillance and preventive measures across various regions. Health authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant, continue practising good hygiene, and wear masks in crowded settings.

The ministry has reiterated its commitment to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. The focus remains on managing the mild cases at home, reducing the burden on healthcare facilities, and preventing any potential escalation of the situation.
