India condemns border intrusion and calls on Pakistan to uphold ceasefire understanding

New Delhi: Hours after Pakistan violated the ceasefire despite an agreement reached with India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) late on Saturday night slammed Islamabad for the same and said that the Indian Army is retaliating with the intrusion.

Reacting to the development Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the intrusion by Pakistan was extremely condemnable and that Pakistan must take steps to stop the intrusion at the earliest.

‘Armed forces maintaining strong vigil’

“The Armed Forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been instructed to deal strongly with any instances of violations near border areas along the international border as well as the line of control”

Pointing out that an understanding was reached by both sides this evening, he added, “An understanding was reached on Saturday evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan to stop the military action which was taking place for the last few days. For the last few hours, this understanding has been violated by Pakistan.”

“The Indian Army is retaliating and dealing with this border intrusion strongly. Pakistan is responsible for intrusion which is extremely condemnable. India believes that Pakistan must understand the situation properly and take the required steps to stop this intrusion,” he added further.

Earlier in the day, India and Pakistan entered into a ceasefire after tensions increased between both countries after the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed and several others were injured.

Address press briefing earlier in the day, Misri said that both India and Pakistan earlier in the day decided to stop military actions against each other along border areas, after a discussion between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of both countries after which a ceasefire agreement was reached. Notably, DGMO initiated a call to his Indian counterpart. Misri said further.
