Guwahati: With the Congress naming Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi to join the Centre’s all-party delegations to visit various countries and expose Pakistan’s role in spreading terrorism, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday raised an objection urging the former not to be included in the delegation.
Sarma’s response came after a post was shared by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on X, announcing the names of the four-party MPs nominated for the tour. “One of the MPs named in the list (from Assam) has not denied his prolonged stay in Pakistan – reportedly for two weeks – and credible documents show that his wife was drawing a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while working in India,” Sarma wrote on X.
He added, “In the interest of national security and beyond partisan politics, I urge Leader of Opposition Sri Rahul Gandhi not to include this individual in such a sensitive and strategic assignment.”

Congress asked to submit names of 4 MPs: Jairam Ramesh
Earlier Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to X and said that the Congress nominated former Union Cabinet minister Anand Sharma, its deputy leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain, and Lok Sabha MP Raja Brar for the all-party delegations to be sent in other countries to explain India’s position on terrorism from Pakistan. The party also said that it was asked by the government to submit the names of four MPs for tours in different countries after Operation Sindoor.
“Yesterday morning, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju spoke with the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The INC was asked to submit names of 4 MPs for the delegations to be sent abroad to explain India’s stance on terrorism from Pakistan,” wrote X.
