A form is being distributed by Jammu and Kashmir Police to the people of the valley. This is an important step taken towards maintaining security and peace. In this, information related to terrorism, participation in encounter and family members settled abroad is being sought. According to the Indian Express report, sources said that such a survey was conducted by the Army in the year 2019 also. Its purpose was to provide the records of the people here to the police, but now it is being done in a very systematic manner. In this way, detailed information about each member of the family will be recorded.
A source said, ‘Till now the information was recorded in police stations, but now we will do it in a very systematic manner through forms. There are two main objectives of this survey – firstly to find out whether any member of the family is missing and secondly whether any new person has come to anyone’s house from abroad. This decision is considered very important considering the number of cases of targeted killing in the valley in recent months. The source said that we want to ensure that we have information about the people living in the valley.
‘Police must have information about residents’
A senior official said that this is a kind of census which is conducted here every 3-4 years. Through this the police updates its records. He said, ‘It is important for the police to have information about the people living in their jurisdiction. Keeping this in mind, this type of exercise is done. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had given a big statement regarding restoration of peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that after the removal of Article 370, terrorist incidents in the Union Territory have decreased by 66 percent and killings of civilians have decreased by 81 percent. Shah had given credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a tourism centre.
