New Delhi: Mumbai is likely to receive light rainfall on Tuesday, the Indian Meteorological Department has said. Heavy downpour battered the city on Monday, leaving several low-lying areas waterlogged, hitting road traffic and also disrupting suburban train services on the Central and Western Railway.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the city, predicting “heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few or isolated places” on Tuesday. Besides Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sidhudurg districts in the Konkan region and Amravati, Bhandara, Gondia, and Nagpur districts in Vidarbha are also expected to witness heavy rainfall.
Incessant rains lashed Mumbai on Monday morning, with intermittent spells of heavy showers. Three people were injured in wall collapse and tree fall incidents yesterday. The Met department has forecast cloudy skies with the possibility of heavy rainfall at a few places in the city and suburbs on Tuesday.
Delhi, Noida may witness rain
Meanwhile, the Met department has predicted light rainfall in Delhi, Noida and other parts of National Capital Region on Tuesday. “Partly cloudy sky. Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds (40–50 kmph), temporarily reaching 60 kmph during evening/night,” the weather office said. The much-awaited rain might bring respite for the people of Delhi-NCR who have been reeling under sweltering heat for the past few weeks.
Rain is also expected to lash several other states including Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh may also receive heavy showers toll June 20, according to the IMD.
