New Delhi: India is set to experience varied weather conditions across different regions this week, with some areas expecting significant rainfall while others remain dry. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the northeastern and southern parts of the country will witness widespread rains.

Central, western, and northwestern regions of India will likely stay mostly dry. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted in several northeastern states, as well as parts of West Bengal and southern states, over the coming days.

Heavy rain likely in Northeast states

In East and Northeast India, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected across the region throughout the week. States such as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will see heavier downpours, particularly on October 4.

According to the IMD, isolated heavy to very heavy rain is expected during these days, particularly in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and parts of the Northeast, which will continue to experience occasional intense rainfall throughout the week. Additionally, Gangetic West Bengal is forecast to receive scattered showers, with the likelihood of heavier downpours on October 4.

Forecast for South India

The southern region of the country is also expected to experience widespread rainfall. Kerala, Mahe and south interior Karnataka are likely to see fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. The IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall in Kerala and Mahe for the next seven days.

South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are also set to experience heavy rain through October 8, with similar conditions forecasted for Rayalaseema from October 4 to 5. The coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and the interior parts of Karnataka will likely see moderate rainfall, while Telangana could see isolated showers during the week.

Meanwhile, central, western, and northwestern India are unlikely to experience any significant rainfall in the next few days. The weather in these regions is expected to remain predominantly dry, providing a stark contrast to the wetter conditions in the Northeast and South.
