IMD: Thunderstorms, heavy rain likely in Andhra due to low pressure area

Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning is likely at some places over North coastal AP, Yanam, South coastal AP and Rayalaseema regions over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department said.

Heavy rain is likely at the above mentioned regions from October 23-25, the weather department said in its forecast.

Light to moderate rains are likely in some parts of Alluri Seetharamaraju, Palnadu, Kurnool, Anantapur, Sri Sathyasai, YSR, Annamaiya, Chittoor and Tirupati districts on October 21, AP State Disaster Management Authority said.

IMD weather inference:

The low pressure area persists over eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23. Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning.

Upper cyclonic circulation over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast now lies over TN and neighbourhood extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
