Despite thousands of protests by the state government, the Governor has to give a speech prepared by the government in the Assembly.
No announcement regarding presentation of interim budget
A few days later, MLAs from the ruling party and the opposition will participate in the discussion on the Governor’s address. After this, the state budget will be presented on the scheduled day. However, it has not been announced whether the interim budget will be presented this time or not? Because this is the year of Lok Sabha elections. When Lok Sabha elections are held, the central government presents a budget. Later, when the elections are over, the new government again presents a full budget.
CM Mamata will present the budget after the elections
The decision regarding state budget is left to the respective state governments. On the lines of the Central Government, they can also present two budgets in the year of Lok Sabha elections. A three-day interim budget session was held in the Bengal Assembly in February during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After the Lok Sabha elections, Mamata government again presented the full budget. Therefore, a part of the state administration is assuming that the state government will present the interim budget in the February budget session. The full budget will be presented again once the elections are over. Minister of State for Finance (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya will present the budget.
