Ahmedabad: The heartbreaking stories of the families affected by the Ahmedabad plane crash continue to come to light. One such story is of eight-year-old Vivaan, who returned to India from London with his mother, unaware that his father, Abhinav, is no longer alive.
Vivaan had been excited about meeting his father. He arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday night, hoping to reunite with him. But what awaited was not a happy meeting. Abhinav was one of the many who lost their lives when the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after taking off for London’s Gatwick Airport.
According to Abhinav’s relative Ashish, who spoke to TV9 Bharatvarsh, the family rushed from Bikaner as soon as they heard about the crash. Ashish has given his DNA sample, and the authorities have said the body will be handed over once the DNA test is confirmed, which may take up to 72 hours.
Abhinav, originally from Rajasthan, had always been bright in studies and was passionate about trying new things. After settling in Ahmedabad, he later moved to London for work. He was planning to start his own export-import business soon. Recently, his grandfather passed away, someone Abhinav was very close to. This emotional loss brought him back to India for a brief visit.
Before boarding the ill-fated flight back to London, Abhinav had called his mother from the airport, promising to speak again after landing. But destiny had other plans.
The crash claimed nearly all 242 lives on board, including 169 Indians, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. Only one person survived, a British citizen named Vishwakumar Ramesh, who is currently undergoing treatment for injuries.
The tragedy didn’t just affect passengers. At least eight local residents, including four medical students living near the crash site in Ahmedabad, also died when the aircraft came down in their neighborhood.
