Husband mixes beer in cold drink, bhang in thandai; UP woman calls off wedding in 5 days

Mirzapur: In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh, a newlywed marriage ended just five days after the wedding due to the strange and unacceptable behaviour of the groom.

The incident took place in a village under the Kachwan police station area of Mirzapur district. A woman from a village in Kapsethi, Varanasi, was married to a man from Mirzapur on May 15. But on the wedding night, the groom mixed beer in cold drink and bhang in thandai and made his bride drink it without telling her. The bride soon felt dizzy and unwell.

The next day, when she learned what had happened, she was deeply hurt and upset. On Thursday, she told everything to her parents. They immediately went to her in-laws’ house and brought her back home.

She filed a complaint at the Kapsethi police station, but police there said the case belonged to Kachwan jurisdiction. The bride then went to Kachwan police station on Friday with her family and lodged a formal complaint.

Both families were called to the police station for a panchayat (village-level meeting). After hours of discussion, the bride refused to return to her husband, and the marriage was officially called off.

Kachwan SHO Ranvijay Singh said that the bride was not willing to live with her husband again due to the incident.
