Gandhinagar: Incessant rainfall continued to batter several parts of Gujarat on Tuesday, throwing normal life out of gear in the state. Heavy downpour has left several low-lying areas in Surat, Tapi, Ahmedabad and other districts waterlogged and also inundated many houses. In view of the incessant rain, schools in Surat and Tapi districts have been shut for the day.
On Monday, heavy rainfall lashed Surat, Valsad, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Rajkot and Junagadh districts of the state, disrupting normal lives. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain for Gujarat on Tuesday.
In Surat’s Sarathana area, several houses and shops in a residential society were inundated following heavy showers. A fire brigade team was called to carry out rescue operations. Several videos have surfaced showing people wading through chest-deep water.
“Light to moderate rain/thundershowers very likely at most places in all the districts of north Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar; at most places in all the districts of south Gujarat region namely Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and in Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli; at many places in all the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch and in Diu,” the IMD said.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting rain and thunderstorms today. The weather department has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning during the evening. The maximum temperature expected to settle at 28 degrees Celsius.
